La colonie centrale de Milos s'appelle Plaka, une adorable ville nich\u00e9e \u00e0 220 m\u00e8tres d'altitude et construite \u00e0 flanc de montagne. De l\u00e0, vous pourrez profiter du coucher de soleil \u00e0 couper le souffle au sommet de la montagne, pr\u00e8s du ch\u00e2teau m\u00e9di\u00e9val et de l'\u00e9glise de Panagia Thallasitra. C'est ce coucher de soleil particulier qui a donn\u00e9 le surnom d'\u00ab \u00eele des amoureux \u00bb \u00e0 Milos.<\/p>\n

En vous promenant dans les rues pav\u00e9es de Plaka, vous ne pouvez pas vous emp\u00eacher de sentir la chaleur des habitants de la ville, alors que vous les regardez se parler \u00e0 travers leurs fen\u00eatres depuis leurs maisons \u00e9troitement construites. Le son de la musique locale est toujours l\u00e0 pour vous tenir compagnie, alors que vous vous dirigez vers le vieux ch\u00e2teau, le "Kastro", et l'\u00e9glise, pour voir le coucher du soleil. Pollonia est une autre ville ancienne qui s'appelait Apollonia, d'apr\u00e8s l'ancien dieu grec du soleil, Apollon. Ce village de p\u00eacheurs \u00e0 la pointe nord-ouest de l'\u00eele est vraiment enchanteur avec de nombreux restaurants, caf\u00e9s et magasins.<\/p>\n

Ce n'est que sur Milos et sa petite s\u0153ur, Kimolos, que vous rencontrerez les pittoresques petites maisons color\u00e9es au bord de la mer, appel\u00e9es "s\u00fdrmata". Les p\u00eacheurs les utilisaient comme abri pour leurs bateaux en hiver.<\/p>\n

Oui, vous avez bien lu ! Apr\u00e8s tout, Milos poss\u00e8de le plus grand r\u00e9seau de chemins de terre des Cyclades. Partez pour une visite \u00e0 pied en suivant les anciens chemins, qui \u00e9taient le seul \u00ab\u00a0r\u00e9seau routier\u00a0\u00bb jusqu'au si\u00e8cle pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent.<\/p>\n

Tout au long de Milos, vous pouvez trouver des catacombes, creus\u00e9es pendant les temps anciens dans la roche tendre. Les catacombes incontournables se trouvent \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 du village de Tripiti. Ils sont connus comme un cimeti\u00e8re souterrain pal\u00e9ochr\u00e9tien et ont \u00e9t\u00e9 creus\u00e9s par les premiers chr\u00e9tiens (vers 200 apr\u00e8s JC). Ils comptent plus de 300 tombes, dans lesquelles on pense qu'entre 5 000 et 7 000 chr\u00e9tiens ont \u00e9t\u00e9 enterr\u00e9s. Cela fait de ces catacombes peut-\u00eatre le monument le plus ancien et le plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre de l'\u00c9glise orthodoxe orientale et de la chr\u00e9tient\u00e9 dans son ensemble, apr\u00e8s les catacombes de Rome. Les habitants affirment que les catacombes servaient \u00e9galement d'abri contre les raids constants des pirates.<\/p>\n

Le mus\u00e9e minier de Milos est un excellent petit mus\u00e9e d\u00e9taillant l'histoire mini\u00e8re de Milos. Vous pouvez le trouver \u00e0 environ 600 m \u00e0 l'est du quai du ferry. Le mus\u00e9e d'arch\u00e9ologie de Plaka est un beau b\u00e2timent ancien contenant de nombreuses expositions passionnantes, dont un moulage en pl\u00e2tre de la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre V\u00e9nus de Milo. L'original a probablement \u00e9t\u00e9 sculpt\u00e9 dans du marbre de Paros vers 100 avant JC et a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvert par un fermier local en 1820. Il r\u00e9side maintenant au Louvre \u00e0 Paris. Un petit troupeau de minuscules figurines de taureaux de l'ancienne colonie de Filakopi, datant de 1400 \u00e0 1100 avant JC, est \u00e9galement expos\u00e9e ici.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 Paliorema, vous pouvez combiner votre baignade avec une visite d'un site g\u00e9ologique fascinant de l'histoire mini\u00e8re de l'\u00eele. Vous pourrez vous reposer sur la plage fantastique aux galets color\u00e9s et au sable fin et profiter de votre baignade tout en visitant les anciennes carri\u00e8res d'extraction de soufre de la r\u00e9gion. Les ruines de bureaux abandonn\u00e9s, pi\u00e8ces d\u00e9tach\u00e9es et objets personnels des ouvriers des carri\u00e8res, composent en effet un paysage attrayant.<\/p>\n

Historiquement, entre 1890 et 1905, les mines \u00e9taient en fonction, propri\u00e9t\u00e9 de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 grecque des travaux publics et municipaux. En 1905, ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 ferm\u00e9s en raison de la production de soufre moins cher aux \u00c9tats-Unis. Les mines ont repris leur pleine activit\u00e9 dans les ann\u00e9es 1930 lorsque les installations que l'on voit aujourd'hui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 construites.
